Description James Cloos 2009-04-15 16:42:02 UTC
Renaming the 0.6.0 ebuild worked for me on ~x86.
Comment 1 Rémi Cardona (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2009-04-18 22:12:14 UTC
I had asked upstream about the 0.7.x series and they specifically told me they really didn't expect those to hit distros.

Now I don't mind if we put it in under p.mask with a big fat warning. Even maybe without any arch keywords...

That's why I've held it off.

@gnome, feel free to bump it if you agree with what I've said above :)

Cheers

I see. I happened to notice that there was a more recent version listed on their homepage than was in gentoo when I was about to install it. There was no indication (that I saw) suggesting that it was not intended for dists.

(Incidentally, this report was never a bump *request* — the Summary should not have been changed to that — but was only a new version notification.)

Notwithstanding the above, the gnome overlay should still have it if it does not go into portage itself.
Comment 3 Gilles Dartiguelongue (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2009-04-19 20:16:14 UTC
notification, well you know, we have means to follow upstream releases like anyone else.

Vala 0.7 release didn't get under the radar so opening a bug means you want it somewhere, not just to poke us in which case you could have simply visited us on irc or sent us a mail.
Comment 4 James Cloos 2009-04-19 21:13:29 UTC
The release date was old enough that it in fact did seem to have fallen under the radar....

In any case...

vala-0.7.2 released, what about put it into portage?

It requires at least for (cross-)compiling freesmartphone.org projects
Comment 6 Rémi Cardona (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2009-05-14 07:57:40 UTC
I'm still not convinced this a good idea for portage, but I'll check it out. If it compiles my stuff properly, it'll go in portage without keywords under a big fat p.mask.

Thanks

0.7.4 was released July 28th, every 0.7.x introduces new fixes and bindings updates and several projects have started requiring those versions to build. I've been using 0.7.4 in my system without problems. Fedora is using 0.7.3 sin July 03. I think this should be bumped at least under the conditions remi stated...
Comment 8 Rémi Cardona (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2009-07-15 16:05:03 UTC
I guess vala 0.7 is safer than I originally thought. :)

@herd, feel free to do the bump if anyone feels like doing so. I'm not using vala much anymore.

Thanks
