I'm trying to install xorg-server-1.3.0.0-r6 by masking higher versions. All dependencies are OK, except the one for x11-drivers/xf86-input-evdev: a version is stable (2.1.1) that needs >=xorg-server-1.5.3. That is, xorg-server-1.3.0.0-r6 should not accept more recent x11-drivers/xf86-input-evdev versions. Reproducible: Always
I'd say invalid - downgrades from stable fail even more often, than mixing stable and unstable and are about as much supported (perhaps even less). Work it around using package.mask.
Sure, that's what I did. But my point is, if you have a dependency system, why not use it? Or improve it? How am I supposed to tell which of the x11-*/* packages work with xorg-server-1.3 or 1.5?
I doubt that this version of xorg-server will stay in portage much longer now that 1.5.3 is stable. But for the sake of completeness, let's see what our x11-maintainers think about this.
We no longer support xorg-server 1.3. Please update to the latest stable version (1.5.3-r5). Thanks
