What's the point of all those VIDEO_CARDS ? What is your video card really ?
Nvidia, and i use in xorg.conf nvidia driver!
AFAIK gdm has its own logfile located somewhere in /var/log. Please attach that file to this bug report.
It's not a gdm problem, i experience this with kdm configuration of xdm too. At this momment i just can start startx from console, but gnome/kde applications can't work.
Attach your xorg.conf and see if emerging xf-input-evdev helps.
