You might want to wait. They are looking at releasing a new version because of two major bugs.
ok .. this isn't really gnome, so maybe i'll take it while i have the "resources" to actually test this for the next 2 or 3 days
yohoo actual dev testing :)
Current planning for 2.1.3 is rc this week, and release this weekend. It should not be very different than 2.1.2... except we'll update the auto*; looking at the rpm patch, it should apply cleanly, though.
actually, given the experience, I'd not hold my breath for a newer release. Last time RC last for 1 month, without really changing. I'd recommend to release newer (2.1.2) package now, because of what have been fixed. Given the planned changes, 2.1.3 should not change much packaging and could be a quick release once it get here.
I had to fight some days until understand why my libgphoto2_port was compiled without usb support, and the problem was in the patch. My system has no rpm installed i tried doing configure and make by hand and it worked. So i installed rpm and used the e-build again and it worked perfectly. I checked later that rpm is not a dependency of libgphoto2... anyway i think it any program is used in a patch it should warn the user about it or put it as a dependency.
raul, could you please open another bug about your problems. rpm is not needed because we patch the configure files to not require it. the usb support is due to a different bug #25571. others, libgphoto-2.1.2 and gphoto2-2.1.2 is now in ~x86.
