I was updating my system when gtksource-python failed to build (using emerge -uDNav world and later for debuggin purposes emerge -uDNav gtksourceview-python). I have fixed this problem, but I think my fix is a little hack; as portage should worked without the fix. The build error and emerge --info are pasted below. First I would like to write some lines which I think are important: the most important build error: <something that leads to gcc> <some include dirs> -I/usr/include/gtksourceview-1.0 <more include dirs> <some compile options> -c gtksourceview.c .libs/gtksourceview.o gtksourceview.override:9:53: error: gtksourceview/<foo>.h: No such file or directory <not defined, implicit declaration blabla errors> SO these files are missing, and indeed, as you can see from the part of the gcc command I kept intact, there is a -I/usr/include/gtksourceview-1.0, which unfortunately does not exist. It exists on my desktop, another system I use, so I did qfile and saw it came from the gtksourceview package. I re-emerge gtksourceview (emerge -uDNav gtksourceview), and all went fine, but still no gtksourceview-1.0 directory in /usr/include (also building gtksourceview-python went wrong with the same errors). Finally I tried emerging gtksourciew-1.8.5-r1. emerge =x11-libs/gtksourceview-1.8.5-r1 **** This actually fixed all, I got the gtksourceview-1.0 dir and gtksourceview-python compiled. My guess would be that portage should have had this as a dependency on gtksourceview-python. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1.emerge gtksourceview-2.4.2 but not gtksourceview-1.8.5-r1 2.emerge gtksourceview-python Actual Results: see attachment. Created attachment 187355 [details] emerge output when gtksourceview-python does not build
I don't get your point. Current gtksourceview-python ebuilds all have a dependency on =x11-libs/gtksourceview-1.8* as shown below: zeromancer:~ # emerge -qpv gtksourceview-python [ebuild N ] gnome-base/libgnomeprint-2.18.6 USE="-cups -doc" [ebuild N ] dev-python/gnome-python-desktop-base-2.24.1 USE="-debug" [ebuild N ] dev-python/gnome-python-base-2.22.3 USE="-debug" [ebuild NS ] x11-libs/gtksourceview-1.8.5-r1 [2.4.2] USE="-debug -doc" [ebuild N ] dev-python/libgnomecanvas-python-2.22.3 USE="-debug -examples" [ebuild N ] gnome-base/libgnomeprintui-2.18.4 USE="-doc" [ebuild N ] dev-python/libgnomeprint-python-2.24.1 USE="-debug -doc -examples" [ebuild N ] dev-python/gtksourceview-python-2.24.1 USE="-debug -doc -examples" zeromancer:~ #
If that is so, I guess I has some other problem. My deduction was: I emerge gtksourceview-python; it fails because gtksourceview-1.8.5-rc1 isn't there. It is not there; even though emerge -uDNav gtksourceview-python did not pull it in. Hence gtksourceview-python doesn't have gtksourceview-1.8.5-rc1 as a dependency. Now you say it has, which I then believe of course: moreover the -q option also shows me that gtksourceview-1.8.5-rc1 isa dependency (I wasn't aware of the -q option). Therefore my conclusion is: somehow gtksourceview-1.8.5-rc1 got installed but the header files didn't or were removed (I did not do so manually). Since I cannot reproduce this behaviour (reinstalling gtksourceview-1.8.5-rc just 'works', the header files are there, etc) there is no way to debug this. Therefore I would like to thank you for your time and appologize for making this invalid bug report.
(In reply to comment #3) > moreover the -q option also shows me that gtksourceview-1.8.5-rc1 isa > dependency (I wasn't aware of the -q option). The -q option means --quiet which just suppresses some of emerge's output (like the spinning cursor when the dependencies are calculated) > Therefore I would like to thank you for your time and appologize for making > this invalid bug report. Don't worry, this can happen even to the most experienced bug reporters from time to time :)
