Comment 1 Peter Penkala gentoo-dev 2003-08-12 16:20:57 UTC
I've added 62.38.102.66 to the access list for rsync1.us.gentoo.org.
Please update your rsync cron jobs to point to rsync1.us.gentoo.org
and post back here when you've done so. We'll monitor the server for
a couple days to make sure things are working fine.

Thanks.

Hello again

I have a little problem with rsync :(

Can please check that you added

62.38.102.66 to the access list for rsync1.us.gentoo.org

penguin proftpd # host rsync.gentoo.gr
rsync.gentoo.gr is an alias for penguin.gentoo.gr.
penguin.gentoo.gr has address 62.38.102.66
penguin proftpd #
Comment 5 Peter Penkala gentoo-dev 2003-08-13 16:16:35 UTC
I only partially added it. I've fixed that, so it should be OK now.
Comment 6 Peter Penkala gentoo-dev 2003-08-14 16:59:57 UTC
There have been a few glitches so far. Can you see if there are any errors
on your end?

The first error ("timestamp missing") could have been from my end, but other
mirrors I'm currently testing didn't have the problem. Either I couldn't
connect to the server, or the timestamp was missing. The other was a missed
sync. Otherwise, the syncs have been OK.

Checked (UTC) Timestamp (all times in date -uR format)
================================================
     02:20:06 timestamp missing
     21:20:08 Thu, 14 Aug 2003 20:31:01 +0000 (expected 21:00)

Hello

Sorry for the delayed answer, I was on vacation :)

No, i don't see any errors on my end.
Have you notice other errors from 14/08 ?

PS
We would like to provide also an official gentoo distfiles mirror site, I must open new bug report ? it will be hosting on the same server as rsync.gentoo.gr
Comment 8 Peter Penkala gentoo-dev 2003-08-18 15:51:35 UTC
There have been a couple more misses since the 14th. Individually, they aren't
an issue, but combined, they are a concern. Here's what I have since then.
"..." indicates no problems for the time period not listed. In this particular
case, "???" is a period when I stopped checking.

Checked (UTC) Timestamp
================================================
16:20:03 timestamp missing (Friday, 15 Aug)
     ...
     23:20:04 Sun, 17 Aug 2003 22:59:00 +0000
     ???
     03:50:05 Mon, 18 Aug 2003 03:30:00 +0000
     04:20:04 Mon, 18 Aug 2003 03:59:00 +0000
     04:53:10 timestamp missing
     22:20:04 Mon, 18 Aug 2003 21:59:00 +0000

Source mirrors are handled seperately, so yes, please open a new bug for that.
We're currently behind with getting source mirrors up, so it might be a while
before we get to it.

Hello

Have you notice other errors from last time .I don't see connections from you any more
Comment 10 Peter Penkala gentoo-dev 2003-09-03 15:48:36 UTC
After my last post I had stopped checking. I had asked someone else to take a
look, but they probably haven't had a chance to look into the problem.

I just did another check, which was current, so I'll monitor again for a while.
Unfortunately, I recently learned of a problem on our end that may be causing
the problem. rsync1.us is running out of RAM during the process when all the
mirrors try to sync. We are working on removing some non-rsync functions from
that server to see if it helps. Also, we are working on replacing the server
entirely, but that won't happen for another 3 months or so.

If the syncs continue to be incosistant, we may have to hold off on adding the
mirror until we can solve the problem. I'll post back in about 24 hours with
an update.
Comment 11 Peter Penkala gentoo-dev 2003-09-05 17:23:15 UTC
The stars have apparently aligned properly :D. Over 3 days, the server had
only 1 possible problem, but that could have been my end.

This server is now rsync2.gr.gentoo.org. Please update the motd file to
include that information.

I've subscribed <mirroradm@gentoo.gr> to our gentoo-mirrors mailing
list (low volume). This list is used to discuss mirror-related issues.

Thanks for supporting Gentoo.

I just happened to notice that we have "Gregory Staggel" listed as the
contact for rsync1.gr. Both rsync1.gr and rsync2.gr are yours? Would you
prefer to have one email subscribed to the list? For rsycn1.gr we have
<gstag@hol.gr>.
Comment 12 Gregory Staggel 2003-09-06 01:27:50 UTC
Hello

If it is not problem for you I prefer to have both emails subscribe to the list gstag@hol.gr is my business email address and gstag@gentoo.gr my personal I support gentoo with 2 servers business and personal
Comment 13 Peter Penkala gentoo-dev 2003-09-06 09:56:23 UTC
No problem at all. gstag@gentoo.gr is also on the list.

Thanks for supporting Gentoo.
Comment 14 Gregory Staggel 2003-09-07 07:47:16 UTC
Sorry for the inconvenience :( can you please remove gstag@gentoo.gr from the list I misunderstood your previous mail.

Contact for rsync1.gr is gstag@hol.gr
Contact for rsync2.gr is only mirroradm@gentoo.gr

Thanks
Comment 15 Peter Penkala gentoo-dev 2003-09-08 19:21:28 UTC
No problem at all. gstag@gentoo.gr removed and mirroradm@gentoo.gr added.
Comment 16 Mirror Admin 2003-10-08 03:10:25 UTC
Hello again :)

Can you tell me why rsync.gentoo.gr (62.38.102.66) isn't on
rsync.europe.gentoo.org ?

I have to open new bug report for that ?

Gregory
Comment 17 Peter Penkala gentoo-dev 2003-10-13 19:32:35 UTC
Each rotation is capable of holding a limited number of hosts.
rsync.europe is currently full.
