Description Eric Hustvedt 2003-08-11 23:06:13 UTC
gst-plugins (<=0.6.1) has a silent dependency on libghttp-1.0*. The plugin isn't
built in 0.6.2 or subsequent version, so this shouldn't be too much of an issue
once version 0.6.2 is unmasked.

metadata.xml says that this is gnome.

what do you mean with silent dependency ? I assume you mean 'it should also depend on ..' ?

gst-plugins depends on half the portage tree, we can't make it depend on everything without a good reason. We're working on a way to clean it up a bit.

By 'silent dependency' I mean that the httpsrc plugin will be built if libghttp-1.0* happens to be installed when gst-plugins-0.6.1 is emerged/updated. There is no external indication that the plugin will get built and, if so, how to get it built. That's the idea of a silent dependency.

I personally hope that the gstreamer project breaks up the gst-plugins package into its constituent parts. Either that, or Gentoo creates ebuilds for each individual plugin in the tarball.

no1 isnt gonna happen anytime soon to my knowledge.

no2 is our solution, there's some stuff in p.mask that should take care of this if you are interested. But beware, it's still very much in development, I haven't had the time lately to finish it.
