Description Robert Isaac 2009-04-01 15:28:07 UTC
We are migrating our Gentoo mirror to a new server on a different host/subnet, and would like to have the various DNS entries in the gentoo.org domain updated to reflect this. We are currently aware of the record rsync5.ca.gentoo.org pointed to 206.75.218.53. We would like for this to be a CNAME to gentoo.arcticnetwork.ca if possible otherwise the IP 64.59.140.91. Currently the gentoo.arcticnetwork.ca hostname points to the old server, but we will be changing this to the new server shortly.

Both servers will remain in-sync while we migrate the dns entries, etc. 206.75.218.53 currently syncs from rsync1.us.gentoo.org for portage, and from masterdistfiles.gentoo.org for sources, and we have passwords setup on these hosts for these connections. We would like to access to these hosts be updated for our new IP.

We will continue to offer these HTTP/FTP/RSYNC mirrors of gentoo:
ftp://gentoo.arcticnetwork.ca/pub/gentoo
http://gentoo.arcticnetwork.ca/ (also /pub/gentoo)
rsync://gentoo.arcticnetwork.ca::gentoo
rsync://gentoo.arcticnetwork.ca::gentoo-portage
rsync://gentoo.arcticnetwork.ca::gentoo-x86-portage (is this still required?)

Thank you for your help

Reproducible: Always

Hello,
I've updated DNS and rsync entries. The updated DNS record should propagate in 1 day. Please confirm that you are now able to rsync from the new server.

The mirror list on the website was pointing to http://gentoo.arcticnetwork.ca/source - fixed that too.

We'll be monitoring the mirror and will close the bug in 2 weeks if everything looks okay.

Distfiles seems to be lagging (current lag is 7 hours on all protocols). Please look into this.

Whoops, whiteboard needs some fixing
Comment 4 Arun Raghavan (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2009-05-11 19:42:11 UTC
Your portage mirror seems to have stopped sync'ing a _long_ time ago, and distfiles seems to be consistently lagging by 8-11 hours (as opposed to the 5.5 hours which is the maximum permitted lag).

Please fix this.

I just got this message while syncing:

!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  NOTICE NOTICE NOTICE NOTICE NOTICE NOTICE
!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

If you are seeing this message, you are not in
the right place. Please check our website
http://mirror.arcticnetwork.ca for the proper
hostnames for connection. This host no longer
contains data.

My mirror is rsync://rsync.namerica.gentoo.org/gentoo-portage. I just synced again and got a different mirror that worked fine, but it looks like you missed a DNS entry.

ford_prefect/fox2mike: please remove the old arctic IP from the rsync rotations for now (leave the rsync5.ca entry).

Their mirror still seems to be an hour behind current, as of May 25 21:46, their timestamp states: 1243284001 Mon May 25 20:40:01 2009 UTC.

That's arcticnetwork.ca admins, of course. Sorry 'bout the typo.

I am still occasionally getting the "If you are seeing this message, you are not in the right place" error. When I look up rsync.namerica.gentoo.org, I see 206.75.218.53 as one of the addresses listed.
Comment 11 Arun Raghavan (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2009-08-17 04:15:19 UTC
Portage tree seems to be lagging by >10h. Any updates, folks?

Christopher: do you still see the old IP in rotation, or is the problem gone?
Comment 12 Robert Isaac 2009-08-19 00:00:50 UTC
The portage tree should be good now.

The old IP will be going offline this wee, it will no longer be displaying warnings to users that connect.

Thanks for your help

Thanks for helping out Gentoo. I have added the IP you specified in the bug to our access database, please start syncing to rsync1.us.gentoo.org per our rsync document at http://www.gentoo.org/doc/en/rsync.xml. We would like you to subscribe to the gentoo-mirrors Mailing List by sending an email to gentoo-mirrors+subscribe@lists.gentoo.org, as we send our notifications of updates, releases, and changes in policy to the mirrors. Once again, thanks for the hardware and bandwidth! Please also monitor http://mirrorstats.gentoo.org/rsync as this application is used to keep track of the up-to-date nature of our mirrors. You are mirror rsync5.ca.gentoo.org in the rsync.ca.gentoo.org rotation and have been added to the rsync.namerica.gentoo.org rotation as well.

Please reopen this bug or open a new one if you need anything!
