The patch referenced by the bug URL fixes a notable performance regression which was introduced in 2.6.26. Among other things, this has adversely affected SQLite: http://www.phoronix.com/scan.php?page=article&item=linux_2629_benchmarks&num=4 Please fold the patch into genpatches-base for those trunks <=2.6.28 that are still being supported.
I should add that lwn.net have been covering this topic: http://lwn.net/Articles/325307/ For the benefit of those that do not have a subscription, it specifically alludes to this regression and confirms that it affects 2.6.26 - 2.6.28. Furthermore, Jens Axboe comments on the article to point out that commit 18ce3751ccd488c78d3827e9f6bf54e6322676fb was the cause and that the aforementioned patch resolves the issue.
