Sorry, but I have no idea what you're asking for. The cvs tree *is* live on cvs.g.o. Not sure what else you're referring to.
i think he's refering to viewcvs ... and the answer is 'no' ... cvs.gentoo.org is too slow a machine to host viewcvs itself
the cvs tree on www.gentoo.org looks like it updates every 24 hours or so, instead of immediately. ie, check in a file into cvs and it does not show up on www.gentoo.org's viewcvs for up to 24 hours.
ok, if we're talking about viewcvs, then correct -- it gets updated once every 24 hours. We moved viewcvs off of the main cvs server and onto the www node cluster for two primary reasons. First, it enables us to spread the load of viewcvs across 4 servers instead of 1. Second, it allows us to run one less network daemon (apache) on the CVS box, meaning a more secure configuration. At the moment, cvs.g.o is overloaded and cannot handle much more. Once we get a bit more breathing room, we will be looking at increasng the frequency with which snapshots get taken and pushed out to the www cluster. The goal is to get it so viewcvs is updated every 15 minutes. Closing as wontfix.
this is really bad. i need it for bugwrangling and mostly there's no changelog entry for every change. i'm behind a very very stupid http proxy at work, so no change to checkout the portage tree :( i'm really sad(unhappy) cause it was working before split. how about a nfs option ?
We're working on increasing the frequency with which snapshots get taken with the goal being updates every 15 minutes. In talking to other folks, it seemed like this frequency would provide timely enough updates for everyone. Given that rsync itself only updates every 30 minutes, I doubt that users will have enough time to download, compile and install a new package, realize there's a problem and file a bug before the next viewcvs update window hits. Thus, I imagine that for purposes of bug wrangling, you'll always have a live enough viewcvs repository. For this to happen, we need to get a new box to run rsync1.us.gentoo.org on, which currently shares resources with cvs.g.o.
