Hi, I was talking to a KDE developer (not Kopete's developer) and he has advised Gentoo (https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=183253) to drop the msn USE flag and stick with only with the wlm USE flag since the MSN protocol is deprecated and there will no bugfixes or new feature for it. That protocol is not enabled by default when compiling Kopete, the wlm protocol is the official Window Live Messenger / MSN one.
Hi, why we should remove the feature. Lets take look on the description <flag name="msn">Enable support for MSN (old microsoft protocol).</flag> <flag name="wlm">Enable "Windows live messenger" protocol support (New protocol from MS).</flag> So if the user can read what we expect from them, he knows that wlm is new protocol and if he needs for god knows what reason the old msn support he can still enable it. Reopen if you dont agree that this description is enought.
The description does not inform the user that he/she is not going to receive any help if he/she dares to use the msn USE flag. No bug fix, no new feature. For instance, Kopete's MSN protocol has video chat feature but it is not working, there is not going to be any bug fix for that even though the Kopete's wlm rotocol does not implement it. So please add to the description that there will be not support if the user dares to use the msn USE flag. Please add an elog warning about this to the ebuild too.
