The next stable release of Gentoo was released, an ebuild is available in its svn: http://svn.gna.org/viewcvs/wesnoth/branches/1.6/packaging/Gentoo/wesnoth-1.6a.ebuild?rev=33929&view=markup Reproducible: Always
A wesnoth-1.6a ebuild is already included in gentoo, currently marked as unstable on all archs. It is not the one provided in the Wesnoth rep (that one is based on scons), it is based on cmake. Thanks to Mr_Bones for creating and uploading the build!
in portage
cmake definitely cannot be using in portage's ebuild currently since it's incomplete. E.g. configuration checks for sendfile(), round() etc are unimplemented. scons and autotools do not have this issue.
Created attachment 186101 [details, diff] Adding config checks for round() and poll() Okay, created a patch adding the "missing functionality". No idea if it will really make a difference on "normal gentoo systems", but here it is anyway...

Also cmake version cannot detect boost libs (at least on my system with boost-1.35 and 1.37). I've also tried to symlink /usr/include/boost-1_35/boost/ /usr/include/boost, but still it fails with: CMake Error at cmake/FindBoost.cmake:392 (MESSAGE): Please install the Boost libraries AND development packages Call Stack (most recent call first): CMakeLists.txt:23 (find_package) scons version from wesnoth repository compiles fine. jama games-strategy # emerge --info Portage 2.2_rc27 Created attachment 186407 [details] Wesnoth 1.6 ebuild Wesnoth dev ebuild with actual version based on scons
I'm pretty new to these things, but I'd like to proposed the ebuild (see my first post), which I got from the Wesnoth forums. It's based on scons but works fine for my 64-bit system. Is there any problem in using scons instead of cmake?
Absolutely not. We are not going to use scons for anything games-related unless there's no possible way to build the package using any other means. scons is one of the worst build systems I've ever seen and I'm not going to inflict it on anyone unless I have to.
That is totally inconsistent with my own experiences with scons. Though that's possibly because I want different things from a build system than you do. Note that quality of scons scripts wildly differs from project to project, so I hope that in particular case of wesnoth you'll reconsider.

ebuilds are working so this seems FIXED.
