Description Marcello Magaldi 2009-03-19 09:07:36 UTC
I tried to install acroread nsplugin in my 64bit firefox using nspluginwrapper:
nspluginwrapper -i /usr/lib32/nsbrowser/plugins/nppdf.so

the plugin installs without problems but when I try to open a pdf document in firefox I get a new tab opened but acroread plugins doesn't load.
I tried launching the plugin in a terminal and I get :

/usr/lib32/nsbrowser/plugins/nppdf.so
Segmentation fault

Anyway acroread works if launched by gnome menu or via acroread command in a terminal.

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1.USE="nsplugin" emerge acroread
2.nspluginwrapper -i /usr/lib32/nsbrowser/plugins/nppdf.so
3. open a pdf document in firefox.

Actual Results:
new tab opened in firefox but acroread plugins doesn't load

Comment 1 Serkan Kaba (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2009-03-19 12:05:37 UTC
This is probably an upstream problem but let's hear the maintainers.
Comment 2 Marcello Magaldi 2009-03-19 18:49:59 UTC
I don't know how or why but now acroread nsplugin is working in firefox ... launching it from a terminal makes it segfaults but perhaps it is not intended to be launched by a terminal. Should I mark this bug as RESOLVED INVALID ?
Comment 3 Lars Wendler (Polynomial-C) (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2009-03-20 23:10:58 UTC
(In reply to comment #2)
> Should I mark this bug as RESOLVED INVALID ?

Hard to judge because acroread is proprietary software. I'm with Serkan and think that this should be decided by the maintainers.
Comment 4 Timo Gurr (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2009-06-17 23:55:23 UTC
Thanks for your comments, closing since the plugin more or less works for you now and as Serkan and Lars already pointed out we can't do much about bugs in proprietary software itself.
