The newest versions of xf86-video-ati and xf86-video-radeonhd have dri and xv support. With onboard-graphic-cards like hd3300 and hd3200 that still doesn't work of all because missing a recent x11-drm version in portage (also missing pciids for these cards in the drm-module). dri and xv would make the Open-Source drivers usable at first. We need a x11-drm ebuild that installs a version from following description. Explicitly using the r6xx_r7xx_branch. A snapshot release or a 9999-git-ebuild in the portage-tree please. http://xorg.freedesktop.org/wiki/radeonhd:r6xx_r7xx_branch the 999999-ebuild from the x11-overlay is missing this important branch too. I built the drm.ko and the radeon.ko module manuell and xv and dri works with both open source drivers. Reproducible: Always Actual Results: no xv and dri with open source ati+radeonhd driver (at least with hd3300 hd3200) lacking drm some software needs xv like tvtime, programms crashing for now Expected Results: xv and dri working with recent x11-drm including r6xx_r7xx_branch
Hi, you can easily modify localy x11-drm ebuild from x11 overlay where you untag the GIT_BRANCH line and replace there "vblank-rework" with "r6xx-r7xx-support". On the other hand you will get quite more crashes :] Also you need git mesa for most things you want to do with your HD card. So i would suggest you to just wait for now until the support is finaly working in most cases.
"So i would suggest you to just wait for now until the support is finaly working in most cases. " What do you mean "most cases"? it's offical support in xf86-video-ati, just for these 2 cards they forgot pciids in drm-module, so it just works for them without extra effort.http://www.phoronix.com/scan.php?page=news_item&px=NzE0Mw
