The error "Unable to create data memory" is returned by genpname:

/var/tmp/portage/app-text/texlive-core-2008-r4/work/texlive-20080816-source/libs/icu-xetex/tools/genpname/genpname.cpp

Please post your "emerge --info" and attach the build.log file.
Comment 3 Peter Bleszynski 2009-03-17 18:12:10 UTC
Setting MAKEOPTS="-j1" solved the problem for me.

Comment 5 Peter Bleszynski 2009-03-17 18:21:37 UTC
emerge texlive-core would fail with MAKEOPTS=j2. It works with MAKEOPTS=j1.
Comment 6 Alexis Ballier gentoo-dev 2010-11-01 11:58:32 UTC
please try with texlive 2010 if this still happens; I've never seen this error :/
