on amd64:

dev-java/commons-beanutils-1.8.0  USE="-doc -source -test*"

seems to be fine for me after a quick glance. For testing I've written a (very) simple test-app that did what I expected. Besides, I've verified that

dev-util/checkstyle-4.4

still works with the newer version. I'm using sun-jdk-1.6.0.12.

Maybe I should have caught that before, but: It seams that commons-beanutils-1.8.0 are getting installed to the wrong directory:

No it shares the 1.7 slot with the older versions.

Ah, OK, that makes sense since 1.8 is binary compatible with 1.7. It's just a little confusing ;-).

the test fails here on amd64, please see the time it takes. in my x86 chroot, it takes about two minutes.

According to http://mail-archives.apache.org/mod_mbox/commons-user/200810.mbox/%3C48E4AAB6.7070509@apache.org%3E one should limit the memory avaiable via -XmX1g for example... But honestly, i don't know where or how that should be done within the ebuild... :-/

 Me neither. I tried ANT_OPTS but that did not work. On the other hand, a limitation to 256M is found in pom.xml, where tests can be excluded. Java team, anything from your side?
Comment 11 Petteri Räty (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2010-01-16 18:47:06 UTC
From pom.xml:

              <excludes>
                <!-- This test case is known to fail, and there isn't any proposed fix
                  - so we will just exclude it until someone comes up with a solution.
                -->
                <exclude>**/*MemoryTestCase.java</exclude>
              </excludes>

I rmed the file in java_prepare so tests should work now.
