Comment 2 Andreas Proteus 2009-04-11 16:21:13 UTC
I had exactly the same problem.

I looked at the sources and it appears that spindown does not use a fifo any longer. However the gentoo init script still specifies a fifo:

FIFOPATH="/var/run/spindown.fifo"

and tries to start it with "-f ${FIFOPATH}" which doesn't work with this version.

Aparently it needs something like:

STATUSPATH="/dev/shm/spindown.status"

and start it with
-s ${STATUSPATH}

This is as far as I got
Comment 3 Marcin Mirosław 2009-07-22 08:19:56 UTC
Version sys-block/spindown-0.3.0 doesn't exists in portage, so we can close this bug.
Comment 4 Marcin Mirosław 2009-08-03 08:01:33 UTC
Mr. Wolfram, are you still active maintainer?
Comment 5 Wolfram Schlich (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2009-11-21 14:32:39 UTC
0.4.0 sources say:

std::cerr << "Statusfile is no longer used. Please use -f or --fifo-path." << endl
