Description Jeremy 2009-03-12 02:13:00 UTC
touchpad on my dell latitude D830 is unusable after upgrade. I made sure to rebuild all xorg libs. downgrading to 2.1.3 solves issue.

It's kinda hard to describe what's going on, but from the looks of things, moving the mouse seems to generate two events, the first for X then the next for Y. So I see a split-second of the cursor where I think it should be, but then it jumps back to ~32 pixels from the left side, at whatever Y position it's at.

I noticed that with the new version that Xorg.log says "type: TABLET" for some reason:
(II) XINPUT: Adding extended input device "AlpsPS/2 ALPS GlidePoint" (type: TABLET)

whereas with the old version it says mouse:

(II) XINPUT: Adding extended input device "AlpsPS/2 ALPS GlidePoint" (type: MOUSE)

I can attach more info if needed

Please post your "emerge --info" and attach the Xorg.0.log with the failing evdev version in use.

Re-open this bug when you provide the requested information.

I opened a bug at freedesktop, and got a chance to hack on the source today. I have a patch on the freedesktop bug if you'd like to try it Jake.
Comment 9 sharpshopter 2009-03-23 00:34:36 UTC
It seems as though the upstream bug report is at http://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=20661 and the bug has been fixed upstream.

Yeah, I entered that into the URL field here when i opened it. Sorry forgot to update here when we got the patch finalized. Upstream fixes all the problems for me now.

Comment 12 Stefano 2009-04-13 16:17:28 UTC
I confirm the bug on a Dell Latitude E6400 (synaptics drivers not loading), and confirm that evdev 2.2.1 (which is ~x86) fixed all of the problems.
Comment 13 Rémi Cardona (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2009-07-21 10:02:51 UTC
Closing as per the upstream bug report and comment #12 from Stefano.

Thanks
