For the first two times when starting eclipse I get the inital splash screen "completing the install". This results in a workspace directory created insided the workspace directory from first time. Subsequent starts of eclipse don't show this behavior. The top and the recursive directory have the same files and content except for the time stamps. This problem occurs every first two times eclipse is started on my system. I use blackdown-jre-1.4.1 Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. Start eclipse for the first time and then exit 2. Start eclipse again and then exit. 3. On doing a listing of the workspace/ directory there is a recursive workspace/ directory inside it. Actual Results: As described above a recursive list of workspace directories. Expected Results: Eclipse shouldn't create the extra second workspace directory. ashutosh@maverick (~) % ls -ld workspace/ drwxr-xr-x 4 ashutosh users 112 Aug 7 23:54 workspace// ashutosh@maverick (~) % ls -l workspace/ total 1 drwxr-xr-x 3 ashutosh users 80 Aug 7 23:54 workspace/ ashutosh@maverick (~) % ls -la workspace/workspace/ total 2 drwxr-xr-x 3 ashutosh users 80 Aug 7 23:54 ./ drwxr-xr-x 4 ashutosh users 112 Aug 7 23:54 ../ drwxr-xr-x 4 ashutosh users 224 Aug 7 23:54 .metadata/ ashutosh@maverick (~) %

I'm taking on the eclipse stuff.
At my end, I get the "completing install" every time I start. Haven't figured out why, yet.
I get it to. See https://bugs.eclipse.org/bugs/show_bug.cgi?id=36549
Aha, so this is a known upstream bug. I've asked for clarification, but most likely we'll have to endure 'till it's fixed upstream.
This still happens with 2.1.3-r2

Fixed. Available for testing on x86 as dev-util/eclipse-sdk-2.1.3-r3
