Description Andrey Grozin gentoo-dev 2009-03-07 22:52:28 UTC
At last I decided to replace tetex-3.0_p1-r6.ebuild by texlive-2008 (I hesitated because I just cannot afford not to have a working LaTeX on my laptop, I use it every day). I followed
http://www.gentoo.org/proj/en/tex/texlive-migration-guide.xml,
and things seem mostly OK. But
/etc/texmf/dvips.d/00texlive-core-config.ps,
and hence
/etc/texmf/dvips/config/config.ps,
contains only the following text:

Error: /undefined in m
Operand stack:
   --nostringval--
Execution stack:
   %interp_exit .runexec2 --nostringval-- --nostringval-- --nostringval-- 2 %stopped_push --nostringval-- --nostringval-- --nostringval-- false 1 %stopped_push 1888 2 3 %oparray_pop 1887 2 3 %oparray_pop 1871 2 3 %oparray_pop 1755 2 3 %oparray_pop --nostringval-- %errorexec_pop .runexec2 --nostringval-- --nostringval-- --nostringval-- 2 %stopped_push --nostringval--

instead of something reasonable. And hence I have no working dvips :-( How can I get a usable 00texlive-core-config.ps? I really need a working dvips rather urgently. If this can help, here is my

I just noticed, my laptop has the same contents in there...for my desktop I don't know (I am not at home), but dvips works there if I remember correctly.
Comment 2 Andrey Grozin gentoo-dev 2009-03-08 13:01:27 UTC
This is not a bug! The files 00texlive-core-config.ps and config.ps contain the correct text! This is an effect of the command 'less': it sees the extension .ps and tries to be smart by running ghostscript. Use 'more' (or just 'cat'). Really, 'less' can be annoying sometimes (it is also too smart with .html files).
