there is some bug in my install cd images. sorry :) updated versions should be available by the next days. as a workaround for existing installations, copy /opt/gentoo/etc/make.globals over the existing /opt/gentoo/usr/share/portage/config/make.globals. this should solve the problem. BTW. another bug in the cd images makes gnome-terminal fail to start. to resolve this, sync the portage tree, and update at least gconf.
