Hi,
A new version of avarice is available, directely bumping 
the ebuild works well( i.e. cp avarice-2.6.ebuild avarice-2.9.ebuild )
BTW, the version on gentoo is a bit outdated.
the new version supports more devices, and fixes some bugs.
