The default /etc/rc.conf KEYMAP setting on a newly installed system (using the Sparc CD and following the install guide) is 'sun'. This keymap does not work (eg hitting standard alphanumeric keys appears to submit a variety of wierd control characters). The default value should be changed to 'sunkeymap', which is reasonable for most keyboards. This is in line with the setting used on the install CD.
Guys, can we get confirmation on this ? I am assuming its with the new kbd ... if needed, we can make ~baselayouts depend on the new kbd ....
I can confirm this. There is not "sun" keymap at all so "sunkeymap" would be a save setting.
What I need to know if it is a problem with kbd-1.0.8, and not 1.0.6, as it used to work ...
This actually hasn't worked in some time. Unfortunately I do not know when it stopped working. The value sunkeymap will work for all but sparcs with USB keyboards (Blade workstations) which need something more x86ish (don't have an exact value atm).
In looking at both kbd-1.06 and kdb-1.08, the sun keymap will not work, so it's a problem with both of them. Azarah, do you want to change the default to sunkeymap or should I?
Will be fixed in a bit, sorry for taking so long.
