xosd needs the default misc-fixed font found in font-misc-misc. It will refuse to start if the default font is not found. The workaround is to pass the new font directly as an argument. I first noticed this problem when pyOSD refused to start because xosd couldn't find the fixed font (even though pyOSD actually defaults to the helvetica font). Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. unmerge font-misc-misc 2. restart X 3. start osd_cat with no parameters The message "Default font not found" should show up on screen
Similar to bug #250986 (but no dupe). Reassigning to maintainer-needed.
