Description Carles Pagès 2009-03-03 22:36:00 UTC
When plugging an external monitor to my laptop, I try to use it with:
$ xrandr --output vga --auto --output lvds --off
The external one only displays images after I reboot X, and the laptop's screen is never turned off. Moreover, I cannot change the resolution on any of them, and cannot turn the external monitor off. Xrandr gives no error and I don't see any messages in X's log.
I have an intel gm965 and am running xorg-server 1.5.3-r2.

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:

In case it is needed, here is my emerge --info:

Comment 1 Carles Pagès 2009-03-03 22:38:58 UTC
I forgot to mention that I'm using xf86-video-intel-2.6.1
Comment 2 Lars Wendler (Polynomial-C) (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2009-03-05 18:54:36 UTC
Reassigning to x11 herd.
Comment 3 Rémi Cardona (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2009-03-05 23:06:52 UTC
Please make sure you're using the full stabilization list from bug #251832 to get the latest ~ Xorg packages.

Once you've fully updated, please try again and please attach your xorg.conf and your Xorg.0.log files here.

Thanks

Comment 6 Carles Pagès 2009-03-06 18:42:55 UTC
I was already using the list. However I updated the most recent packages such as the new intel driver 2.6.3 but I have the same behaviour.
Comment 7 Rémi Cardona (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2009-03-06 23:39:34 UTC
I'm out of ideas to help you out. Please this document [1] on how to file bugs in FreeDesktop's bugzilla. X and Intel devs will probably be able to help you out.

If you do open a bug there, please paste the url here so we can track the bug.

Thanks

Thank you for the suggestion. Here is the link to the bug I filed:

Comment 9 Rémi Cardona (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2009-05-06 15:59:47 UTC
Let's track the bug upstream. Please do try to unmask xf86-video-intel 2.7.0 and then report in the upstream bug.

Thanks
