I have an Adaptec SCSI adapter:

scsi0 : Adaptec AIC7XXX EISA/VLB/PCI SCSI HBA DRIVER, Rev 6.2.8
        <Adaptec 29160B Ultra160 SCSI adapter>
        aic7892: Ultra160 Wide Channel A, SCSI Id=7, 32/253 SCBs

I tried to boot from the new LiveCD: gentoo-basic-1.4-20030803 with "gentoo
doscsi" parameters at the promt. It normally detects aic7xxx and hangs
afterwards when trying to load old aic7xxx.

There is no problem with LiveCD-1.4rc4

have you tried the "smp" kernel, its basically the 1.4-rc4 kernel (xfs-sources 2.4.20)

I tried to pass "smp" at boot promt, but here what it says:

Could not find kernel image: smp

So, as I understand, there's no smp kernel with this livecd?

seems some of the livecds were created without the smp kernel accidently, 
new cds should fix this issue
