Description Radu Benea 2009-03-01 16:08:02 UTC
someone recently changed the kde eclass (I think) and now thanks to it I can't do an update world
kde4.2 does not depend on xorg-server-1.5.2 as I have it fully installed and running since the day it hit portage without problems on xorg-server-1.3.0.0-r6, cause I unmasked kde4.2 on a stable amd64 system

Reproducible: Always

Sorry, too many pple wanted effects and this is result.
efects dont work reliably when using 1.3 server and they were opening bugs and so on. For us is better to adjust deps than explan to 10 users a week that if they want effects they should update their xorg-server.

Sorry

I hit the same problem. I can't upgrade xorg on two of my systems (one has three monitors, and I have to wait for xorg-1.6 for xrandr support to replace xinerama across multiple video cards, and the other has an nvidia card and needs interlaced output, which only works with one old release). Keeping a separate copy of the eclass in /usr/local/portage/eclass is a workaround, but it's bound to cause problems in the future. Isn't this the sort of thing that a use flag should cover?
