I can't reproduce this on a healthy prefix, only when setting up a new one.

 * Failed Patch: gawk-3.1.6-mint.patch !
 *  ( /home/olexa/prefix/usr/portage/sys-apps/gawk/files/gawk-3.1.6-mint.patch )

With the latest_tree argument even!
bash-3.2$ cat usr/portage/metadata/timestamp

this may be a `patch` problem :(
Comment 3 Fabian Groffen gentoo-dev 2009-03-01 10:17:26 UTC
I have a positive feeling the DOS newlines in this file screw up the patching (older patch in use), as I've seen this happening before. Can close this if bootstrapping works with a snapshot after today.

(probably) fixed in new bootstrap image. I won't get to re-bootstrapping for a long while now.
