Users sometimes submit emerge logs with localized messages (coming e.g. from make(1)). These logs may be hard to understand by developers if they don't know given language and usually they ask to resend emerge logs with English messages. bugzilla-howto should suggest using LC_ALL="C" to create English only emerge logs, e.g: LC_ALL="C" emerge -av1 xchat Reproducible: Always
Using LC_ALL should basically never be used. We have explicit warnings about this in the localization guide. GDP: if the translators disagree; if ya'll have to do this, then ignore me and reopen. Otherwise, we won't be adding this to any of our guides. Emerge should almost never be prefixed with environment variables.
in general, yes. but when filing bug reports, people should emerge with LC_ALL=C so that the error messages show up in english. otherwise, bug wranglers generally close the bug and ask the user to do exactly that. adding appropriate warnings to the bugzilla guide like "only do this when generating a log to post to a bug" makes sense as well
In CVS, thanks.
