I used to have udev-124-r1 and, every time I inserted a pendrive (formatted with FAT32) in my USB port, it used to appear in the thunar-0.9.3 removable devices list. Since I upgraded to udev-133, thunar doesn't respond any more to the insertion of the pen drive. dmesg shows that the drive is recognized correctly and mapped as /dev/sdb, and manual mounting works fine. #dmesg [...] usb 2-5: new high speed USB device using ehci_hcd and address 5 usb 2-5: configuration #1 chosen from 1 choice scsi6 : SCSI emulation for USB Mass Storage devices usb-storage: device found at 5 usb-storage: waiting for device to settle before scanning usb-storage: device scan complete scsi 6:0:0:0: Direct-Access CREATIVE NOMAD MuVo TX 1223 PQ: 0 ANSI: 4 sd 6:0:0:0: [sdb] 241984 2048-byte hardware sectors (496 MB) sd 6:0:0:0: [sdb] Write Protect is off sd 6:0:0:0: [sdb] Mode Sense: 38 00 00 00 sd 6:0:0:0: [sdb] Assuming drive cache: write through sd 6:0:0:0: [sdb] 241984 2048-byte hardware sectors (496 MB) sd 6:0:0:0: [sdb] Write Protect is off sd 6:0:0:0: [sdb] Mode Sense: 38 00 00 00 sd 6:0:0:0: [sdb] Assuming drive cache: write through sdb: sdb1 sd 6:0:0:0: [sdb] Attached SCSI removable disk sd 6:0:0:0: Attached scsi generic sg2 type 0 I've already tried udev-135-r4, as well as recompiling thunar and rebooting my system. nautilus won't work either (but I don't know if it worked before, as I use it really seldom). The actual problem is that the udev upgrade broke binary compatibility with HAL. Running revdep-rebuild fixed the problem.
