Description Philippe Chaintreuil 2009-02-26 15:55:28 UTC
My 64-bit machine's Flash doesn't seem to be reporting the correct version.

I found the following Adobe KB entry which has a small Flash "program" which lists your Flash version and some additional information.

My 64-bit machine displays my version as just "LNX". However a 32-bit machine I have displays "LNX 10,0,15,3".

I do not have nspluginwrapper installed. Ebuild --info & screenshots to come.

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Install netscape-flash on a 64-bit machine.
2. Go to http://kb.adobe.com/selfservice/viewContent.do?externalId=tn_15507
3. View flash version in applet.

Actual Results:
LNX

Expected Results:
LNX 10,0,22,87

(Or something similar)

This keeps sites like Hulu.com from working since they can't verify the Flash version.

I'm quite sure, there's nothing, our fellow Gentoo-devs can do about this.
This is either an upstream problem or a problem with the flash-code being on the site you referenced to (which would result in an upstream problem as well).

For the sake of completeness, I reassign this to the current package maintainer and am CCing desktop-misc herd, but I'm quite sure this bug should rather be RESOLVED UPSTREAM...
Comment 5 Philippe Chaintreuil 2009-02-26 16:39:52 UTC
I downloaded Adobe's 64-bit version directly and put it in ~/.mozilla/plugins/ and uninstalled netscape-flash. Their version exhibits the same issue on that test webpage. I tried Hulu and it worked, then I removed my ~/.mozilla/plugins/ folder, reinstalled netscape-flash. I still get the same thing on the version page, but Hulu continues to work.

I don't know if Hulu made a change while I was screwing with this or if I screwed up someplace along the way....

My actual issue seems to be fixed; the title of the bug is still true, but that seems to be an upstream issue. Feel free to close as UPSTREAM.
