Description Andrew Cowie 2009-02-26 03:07:58 UTC
I have the strangest thing going on. hyphens, when rendered in italic and colour green with our everyday DejaVu Sans font are being drawn by Pidgin as blank whitespace. See attached screenshot.

I'm sure I can give lots of debugging and environment info if someone can think of good questions to ask me.

Screenshot illustrating problem

A trimmed down Screenshot of from a Pidgin IRC conversation window. Note that when "rcjsuen" joins the channel, his hostname has lots of blanks in there. /whois shows hyphens, as you would expect in an average everyday reverse DNS lookup.

And here is the output of `emerge --info`.

Can you copy and paste the text and does it show the hyphens wherever you pasted them?

Yes, and yes. Sorry, I should have mentioned that I did indeed check that, but for completeness here's a cut and paste for you:

"""
(16:53:38) travisgriggs [n=travis@71-37-128-172.spkn.qwest.net] entered the room
"""

the hyphens were whitespace on screen.

Is this problem still reproducible (with recent versions of everything)? Looks like this works here.

Andrew, please, try newer pidgin versions and if problem persists reopen bug report.
