Either slotted or abiword should be patched.
Hi, first no need to generate twice the bug spam, then, gucharmap is not slottable, finally, please report this issue upstream and paste the link here.
there is something wrong with your system, I just rebuilt abiword-2.6.6 due to the gucharmap 2.24 update on my own main system and it built just fine. Please run revdep-rebuild or emerge @preserved-rebuild if you have a recent enough portage with preserved-libs feature enabled.
I wouldn't be so sure about that - seeing that 2.6.6 svn release tag is r25497 and r25702 note is: "port to gucharmap-2. closes bug #11493", this time the reporter may be right, especially that there is no gucharmap_chapters_get_type in gucharmap-2.
Created attachment 183215 [details] revdep-rebuild log file Gzipped standard out from revdep-rebuild (after deleting the cache). It tires to emerge abiword first and still fails.
Hum actually this might be a problem with libtool pulling the libabiword that is installed on your system: -L/var/tmp/portage/app-office/abiword-2.6.6/work/abiword-2.6.6/src/wp/main/unix -labiword-2.6 /usr/lib/gcc/x86_64-pc-linux-gnu/4.2.4/../../../../x86_64-pc-linux-gnu/bin/ld: warning: libgucharmap.so.6, needed by /usr/lib/libabiword-2.6.so, not found (try using -rpath or -rpath-link) libtool-1 is known to generate Makefiles that can go wrong like this like in evolution-2.24 but it might also be a bug in Makefile.am. I didn't see the problem because I'm using --as-needed and abiword doesn't really link to gucharmap it seems. A workaround for now would be to remove abiword and reinstall it.
I tried: emerge -C abiword && emerge abiword and it emerged successfully. :)

Unfortunately I have done this before I was filling the bug. (In reply to comment #10) I have installed with no issues the older version of it: gnome-extra/gucharmap-2.22.3 > Unfortunately I have done this before I was filling the bug. > (In reply to comment #9) > > File "/usr/bin/xml2po", line 35, in <module> > > import libxml2 > > ImportError: No module named libxml2 > > -> you failed at upgrading your python installation. I have fixed. I used "python-updater -i" and then ran into http://forums.gentoo.org/viewtopic-t-712898-highlight-.html 135 packges were emrged and now I have installed gnome-extra/gucharmap-2.24.3. I was about to file a new bug, but I believe what I've just encountered is similar enough to this one. During the configure stage, abiword fails to find gucharmap, printing; "checking for GUCHARMAP... no" With a bit of digging around in the configure script, I found it's using pkg-config to check for "gucharmap >= 1.4", which fails because current gucharmap installs a "gucharmap-2" pkg-config file. This is with the currently stable abiword 2.6.8 and gucharmap 2.26.3.1 If I symlink /usr/lib/pkgconfig/gucharmap-2.pc to /usr/lib/pkgconfig/gucharmap.pc, abiword finds it but then fails to compile, unsurprisingly. I know that would be no fix, and this is really an upstream problem, however it implies gucharmap is currently broken in abiword, and the only reason compile failures arent seen over it is because abiword never enables it, regardless of whether or not --enable-gucharmap is passed.
Please test with abiword-2.8.6 as it has fixed build system and looks to compile fine for me against gucharmap 2.30.2
