/usr/portage/sys-apps/baselayout/ChangeLog contains lines like: "New version - see ChangeLog in /usr/share/doc as always." Which is not very helpful, given that the ChangeLog in /usr/share/doc/baselayout-<new>/ChangeLog will not be there until after the emerge. Blocks me if I want to know what the changes are before I commit them... portage sets a bad example by putting a link to a Web page in it's ChangeLog (not available if offline), and baselayout creates another "leak" that should be plugged...
portage is not a 'bad example' ... if we put that file on rsync, it's *huge*, thus a waste of bandwidth for many ppl ...
Exactly the same amount of bandwidth that is required to view it on the Web, in fact.
But not everyone that uses gentoo will view it on the web. I think a link to the webpage may be in order.
there is a link in the portage ChangeLog to the full ChangeLog :) if anything i could see maybe the last set of changes being in the log and thats it
Maybe it's just me, or it catches me at a grumpy moment, but I find it a royal pita when I go to look at a ChangeLog, and it refers me off somewhere else. I just want to know what to expect from the next emerge so I can decide if it's something I need to a) do right away b) put off for awhile c) investigate further. I would ask that at least the last month's worth be there. If I've put of an update longer than that, I deserve having to do a little more work...
Added the URL to gentoo-src as portage does at top. Rest in ChangeLog will stay ebuild only changes ...
