There are several minor issues during the configure process. The package builds fine for me but maybe worth as a hint that there are some issues: "`pwd` call, no libtool in some src dir.

+  Compile tests/ only if "make check" is requested wrt #226345. Run
+  eautoreconf after touching py-compile or timestamp is changed and
+  maintainer-mode will run wrt #259832.

2.18.0 is going stable so there's no need to fix other versions -- only latest.
