Description Will Woods (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2003-08-05 11:13:58 UTC
Here's a list of packages that livecd-ng wants to put on the LiveCD, but are
masked for alpha:

net-ftp/ftpd
mirrorselect
sys-apps/mdadm
parted
sys-apps/star
net-dialup/wvdial
sys-apps/raidtools
net-irc/irssi
jfsutils

=sys-apps/hotplug-20020826-r2
usbutils
net-dialup/ppp
net-dialup/rp-pppoe
isdn4k-utils
pptpclient
sys-apps/lvm-user
Comment 1 Tavis Ormandy (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2003-08-07 02:27:08 UTC
I've marked irssi, ppp, mirrorselect, usbutils and hotplug stable. I've used them all for motnhs, and other people have reported using them on the forums and irc.

I marked star, ftpd, mingetty, and ucl stable. New list below. Your turn, Will. Btw, there are some packages here that NONE of us (Tavis, Will, me) will ever be able to use or test. If they build, we'll have to mark them stable and move on. We'll have to "risk-manage" the bug reports at that point.

sys-apps/partimage
hwdata-knoppix
hwsetup
sys-apps/mdadm
parted
net-dialup/wvdial
sys-apps/raidtools
jfsutils
dietlibc
tsocks
net-dialup/rp-pppoe
isdn4k-utils
pptpclient
sys-apps/lvm-user
Comment 4 Will Woods (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2003-08-13 16:42:47 UTC
Whee, my turn! I've marked the following (and their deps) stable, based on a combination of (admittedly brief) testing and checking what other distributions consider stable:

mdadm raidtools parted dietlibc hwsetup hwdata-knoppix

Stuff we can't test ourselves (e.g. isdn) will be marked ~alpha if it compiles, and put on the experimental liveCD.. if someone needs that functionality they can use the experimental CD and report success/failure to us. Stuff that doesn't compile should be fixed or dropped from the CD as appropriate.

New list:
sys-apps/partimage
net-dialup/wvdial
jfsutils
tsocks
net-dialup/rp-pppoe
isdn4k-utils
pptpclient
sys-apps/lvm-user
Comment 5 Will Woods (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2003-08-21 16:48:56 UTC
partimage compiles okay but dies, seemingly due to 32-bit-isms:
  Error: sizeof(DWORD) != 4 (8)
This version has been compiled with an uncompatible version of gcc.
I'm gonna have to remove it from the list. Too bad, it would have been useful.

wvdial, rp-pppoe, isdn4k-utils and pptpclient are part of mandrake and/or RH and compile for me, so I'm marking them stable.

Attempting to mount a JFS partition on my system causes a kernel oops/BUG(), so I'm removing jfsutils from the list.

tsocks compiles but I can't test it so I'm marking it ~alpha.

And lastly, LVM isn't in the alpha kernel yet, so I'm gonna drop it from the liveCD, for now.

Hopefully soon I can try to build a new LiveCD! Thanks for the help, guys.

Moving these so we can remove the "Install CD" component from "Gentoo Linux".

I apologize to everyone for this spam, but according to the bugzilla developers,
this is the only reasonable way to do this.
