I set up an HP Photosmart D5300 under CUPS. Any text document from any program prints as expected, as do printouts from web browsers. But when trying to print to this CUPS-hosted printer to print a photo (what the printer was made to do) from Gimp, I get a paper mis-match error no matter how I configure it, either in CUPS or in page setup in Gimp. I've gone to the Gentoo forums first, and this seems to be a stumper. If I set up the same printer via HPLIP, I don't get the paper mis-match error, but it will simply not print anything larger than a thumbnail approx. 2 inches square, no matter what settings I use (using hi-res images). I'm not sure what program has a bug, if any, but it seems to me something just isn't working here. I have found other people on other sites saying that Gimp works well for their photo printing needs under Linux, so it's probably not Gimp's fault. CUPS or HPLIP? I don't know that either - only that something isn't working the way it seems it should. I will attached anything requested. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. Set up a photo printer (in my case, the Photosmart D5300) under CUPS 2. Open image in Gimp 3. Try to print image in Gimp 4. Get paper mismatch error 5. Set up same printer under HPLIP 6. Open image in Gimp 7. Image will not printer larger than a couple inches square. Actual Results: Paper mismatch error or tiny print size. Expected Results: Photo print at whatever size I specify according to the attached printer's acceptable parameters.
