After I upgraded to qt-4.5_rc1 (rebuilt kdelibs afterwards, then ALL of kde.) konqueror became VERY crashy. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. have kde 4.2 installed with qt 4.4.9999 and no crashs at all! 2. upgrade to qt-4.5_rc1 and rebuild all of kde 3. see konqueror crash when you open pictures in new tabs. Ok the fact that you were running qt-4.4.9999 with kde-4.2 is really helpfull. You could go to 4.5.9999 and reproduce it if possible. I cant reproduce that with qt-4.5.9999 so I assume that this is fixed on qt-copy patchset and I need to find the right patch. Give it a try too if you like
then it has to be a very recent patch, because I tried 4.5.9999 maybe a week ago and at least the kdmgreet crash was there too. But I will retry it now. Maybe they fixed it.
No, kdmgreet doesnt fail anymore. You need to upgrade to the latest kdm in tree (4.2.0-r1). I cant reproduce this bug. I use konqueror for more than 4 hours, and I have 15 open tabs. Is there a specific way to reproduce this crash? Opening pictures on new tabs doesnt fail here
And please dont change the severity of this bug. kde team will do it if necessary :)
I open any site (like marc) open several links in new tabs, try to change to the first newly opened tab and see konqueror go down. This does not happen every time, but 4 out of 5. The only way to switch to a new tab is to close the current one. Only then konqueror does not crash. When loading a jpg in a new tab, I do not need to switch. With some jpgs (like from the forum thread I posted the url from in the first comment), konqueror goes down even without switching tabs - loading, crash. gwenview has become unstable too. With damaged jpgs - before update nothing. After update segfault. And yes, I logged out and in after the upgrade/recompile. I am installing 4.5.9999 right now - I will report back after everything is re-compiled - in a few hours.

Because with that version konqueror never crashed.
to clear something up: I rebooted after the installation. So system was clean. No stale libs in ram. It is not only jpgs, tabs are crashing konqueror. I just went here: http://marc.info/?l=linux-kernel&r=1&b=200902&w=2 opened a new tab, switched to it, konqueror went down. It does not happen always. If there are a couple of tabs open and it survives the switch to the first one, the chances are great that it might survive the next switch to. with 4.5_rc1 konqueror crashes 4/5 times when switching tabs. with 4.5.9999 konqueror crashes 2/3 times when switching tabs. with 4.4.9999 konqueror crashed 0/1000 times. apart from konquerors crashs my system is stable. Really stable. I am compiling a lot. I stress the box a lot. Everything works perfectly fine. So it is not the hardware.

I only changed it once - when I reported the bug - and I just followed the description: Critical: The software crashes, hangs or causes you to lose data. If you don't like that - maybe change the description? Because 'the software' does crash.
