Description Giacomo Perale 2009-02-11 17:39:38 UTC
The configure script outputs

checking for nasm... no
configure: WARNING: no correct assembler was found - Compiling generic sources only

Indeed there's this discussion in the developer mailing list: http://list.xvid.org/pipermail/xvid-devel/2008-December/006002.html

Anyway there's something strange, at least on my system, because analyze-x86 reports

Disassembling /usr/lib/libxvidcore.so.4.1, please wait...
i486: 538 i586: 4 ppro: 1296 mmx: 32163 3dnow: 143 ext3dnow: 0 sse: 1314 sse2: 468 sse3: 34

for xvid-1.1.3 but

Disassembling /usr/lib/libxvidcore.so.4.2, please wait...
i486: 536 i586: 0 ppro: 1369 mmx: 2 3dnow: 0 ext3dnow: 0 sse: 0 sse2: 2 sse3: 42

for xvid-1.2.1, even with nasm installed.

Comment 2 Alexis Ballier gentoo-dev 2009-02-11 18:50:06 UTC
i suppose you don't have nasm-2 installed; will fix the dep
Comment 3 Giacomo Perale 2009-02-11 18:55:42 UTC
The second analyze-x86 output is WITH nasm-2.05.01 installed and recognized by the configure script.
Comment 4 Giacomo Perale 2009-02-11 19:48:01 UTC
Ignore my comments, problem in my copy of analyze-x86 (was using objdump -d, it didn't find anything to disassemble until I changed it to -D, don't know if it's important).

Anyway, at least on x86 xvid compiles with yasm if I just revert the configure.in change, but I think that the best thing would be to fix the dep.
Comment 6 Alexis Ballier gentoo-dev 2009-02-11 19:50:06 UTC
and thanks for the report :)
