"emerge --depclean" wants to remove qca-1.0-r3, but this package is needed by kde-base/kdenetwork-3.5.9

I've tried to remove qca-1.0-r3, but it was emerged again on the next "emerge -uND world"

$ emerge --depclean --with-bdeps y --pretend

Note that the dependency is conditional on the ssl USE flag:

   ssl? ( dev-perl/IO-Socket-SSL =app-crypt/qca-tls-1.0* )

So, I guess you don't have that flag enabled on the installed instance of kde-base/kdenetwork-3.5.9. You can verify this by checking the content of /var/db/pkg/kde-base/kdenetwork-3.5.9/USE.
Comment 2 Mickaël Bucas 2009-02-11 09:32:37 UTC
It seems to me that kdenetwork is installed with ssl :

$ cat /var/db/pkg/kde-base/kdenetwork-3.5.9/USE
amd64 arts elibc_glibc kernel_linux ssl userland_GNU

$ emerge -pv =kde-base/kdenetwork-3.5.9

These are the packages that would be merged, in order:

Calculating dependencies   ... done!
[ebuild R ] kde-base/kdenetwork-3.5.9 USE="arts ssl -debug -jingle -kdeenablefinal -kdehiddenvisibility -rdesktop -sametime -slp -wifi -xinerama" 9,124 kB

Total: 1 package (1 reinstall), Size of downloads: 9,124 kB

It wants to remove 2.0.1-r1, not 1.0-r3 (that's what omitted means). I guess you've misunderstood the output.
Comment 4 Mickaël Bucas 2009-02-12 08:54:27 UTC
Thanks for pointing my mistake :)
I have unmerged app-crypt/qca-2.0.1-r1, and it's not reinstalled by "emerge -uND --with-bdeps y world"

The only question that I have is : why has it been installed in the first place ?
Comment 5 Zac Medico gentoo-dev 2009-02-12 17:41:07 UTC
It's quite common for dependencies to be added/removed/updated, and it's natural for some of these changes to make packages such as qca-2.0.1-r1 unnecessary. You may sometimes notice this behavior after running emerge --sync (even if you haven't installed or updated any packages since the last time you ran --depclean) due to the behavior described in comment bug #239006, comment #4.
