I'm not sure if this matters, but when my system skips Gentoo's mirrors and tries to download the source from the original site, it gets a 404: >>> Downloading 'http://gwhois.de/gwhois/gwhois_20071030.tar.gz' --2009-02-09 23:27:20-- http://gwhois.de/gwhois/gwhois_20071030.tar.gz Resolving gwhois.de... 89.107.65.85 Connecting to gwhois.de|89.107.65.85|:80... connected. HTTP request sent, awaiting response... 404 Not Found 2009-02-09 23:27:20 ERROR 404: Not Found. Maybe this should just be a request for a version bump, because new versions exist. I think that http://gwhois.de/gwhois/changelog lists a few worthwhile changes (most notably the updated URL for .by domains if I'm reading the changelog correctly)
Sorry, the log output in the original post was from version 20071030 of the ebuild. Here is the error for the 20080716 version. >>> Downloading 'http://gwhois.de/gwhois/gwhois_20080716.tar.gz' --2009-02-09 23:20:03-- http://gwhois.de/gwhois/gwhois_20080716.tar.gz Resolving gwhois.de... 89.107.65.85 Connecting to gwhois.de|89.107.65.85|:80... connected. HTTP request sent, awaiting response... 404 Not Found 2009-02-09 23:20:03 ERROR 404: Not Found. !!! Couldn't download 'gwhois_20080716.tar.gz'. Aborting.
This happens very frequently and it is one of the reasons why we *have* GENTOO_MIRRORS. Assigning to maintainer, for version bump aspect. I wouldn't expect SRC_URI to be changed unless there is a valid URL available.
