Not sure whether Adobe ever got around patching it, and it exports its symbols, so it's not nice at all:

zlib version in /opt/fdftk-6.0/lib/libFdfTk.so: 1.1.4

Upstream hasn't released any new version of the binaries, in nearly 6 years now. Aside from any security issues, there's nothing broken with it.
