Description James Duff 2003-08-03 04:04:13 UTC
First the background, I am using xdm, I have the bootsplash graphical term
thingy going (Mmmm looks nice), and I use icewm, kernel is gentoo-sources 2.4.20-r5.

When I shutdown using icewm's shutdown command (hit ctrl-alt-delete, then
shutdown or restart), x dies nicely, then virtual term 1 is brought up. However,
the shutdown output (processes stopping etc) goes to virtual term 7 (ie where x
was). This is normally fine, but with graphical consoles, it hangs until I
switch to vitrual term 7, and I see the message --> "vt_waitactive: interrupted
system call" <--

Even if I leave it for hours without switching to term 7, it just sits there.

Reproducible: Always
Steps to Reproduce:
1.be using graphical terminals, and xdm, and icewm
2.hit ctrl-alt-delete in icewm, click reboot or shutdown
3.wait

Actual Results:
x dies, virtual term 1 appears, then nothing more happens until alt-F7 switches
to virtual term 7, then shutdown continues as normal

Expected Results:
Shutdown should have continued. Preferably the shutdown output (processes being
stopped) should have appeard in virtual term 1 in the first place, and this
would probably avoid the whole problem.

Portage 2.0.48-r5 (default-x86-1.4, gcc-3.2.3, glibc-2.3.2-r1)

icewm 1.2.9
xfree 4.3.0-r2 or 4.3.0-r3
gentoo-sources 2.4.20-r5
bootsplash 0.6-r1

Workaround is switch to virtual term 7 after x has died. Annoying tho.
Comment 1 Disenchanted (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2003-09-03 19:07:32 UTC
do problems persist with icewm-1.2.11-r1?
please also check bug 27230 if you want/need to try 1.2.12 of icewm
Comment 2 Disenchanted (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2003-10-31 12:39:55 UTC
do problems exist with 1.2.13?

can this bug be closed if there is no response?

suggest to close NEEDINFO
Comment 4 Troy Dack 2004-01-10 04:28:05 UTC
Closing for now. If you are still experiencing these problems with 2.4.24 then let us know.
