After January 31st, the distfiles directory disappeared from ftp://distro.ibiblio.org/pub/linux/distributions/gentoo/. This mirror is included in /usr/portage/profiles/thirdpartymirrors (line 16). Other mirrors (ftp.tu-clausthal.de/pub/linux/gentoo/ for example) seem to use ibiblio as their master server and as a result they do not provide the distfiles as well which may cause 404 errors during emerge if those servers are in the GENTOO_MIRRORS list. Reproducible: Sometimes Steps to Reproduce: 1. emerge any random package with GENTOO_MIRRORS set to one of the servers not having the distfiles Actual Results: emerge (wget) gets 404 and downloads from other servers with higher latency Expected Results: ibiblio should carry the distfiles or should be removed from the mirrorlist. It's mentioned in the thirdpartymirrors and in the official mirror-list on the Gentoo website. I opened this bug primarily to get some clarification on the status of ibiblio.org. I mainly use(d) ftp.tu-clausthal.de for getting the distfiles because it is nearer than the other mirrors. Is the removal of distfiles on ibiblio permanent?

I mailed ibiblio directly now.
ibiblio is also missing the experimental directory. I feel this directory is fairly important at the moment with the transition to autogenerated stages / cd's.

I did get an initial response from ibiblio, and it looks like we may have to downgrade them to being a partial mirror, just waiting for further email from them. I'll take them out of thirdpartymirrors for the meantime.

mirror-admin: please update the docs to note that ibiblio (AND the other sides that mirror from them) are now partial mirrors.
Moved ibiblio to the partial mirrors list. ftp.tu-clausthal.de does have distfiles, but is lagging (currently by about 21 hours). Will track this separately. Not sure how we can track mirrors who are not syncing from master, really. There are a few more mirrors showing up on mirrorstats as being broken for a long time. We need to purge the dead ones.
