Not that suspend and resume have always worked perfectly, but they have been for me as of 2.6.27. With upgrading to 2.6.28, the machine fails to resume properly, resulting in what appears to be a crash requiring hard reset. Screen is blank, no response to any input. On suggestion from another user in the forums, I tried without X and the video driver but to no avail. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. pm-suspend 2. press whatever button wakes your machine up Actual Results: Blank screen, hang. Expected Results: System wakes up in a couple of seconds. Oh and since this is hardware related, I thought I should include the output from lspci. And I know it says "2.6.27" in my emerge --info, that's what I use, not where the bug is. 00:00.0 Host bridge: Intel Corporation Mobile 915GM/PM/GMS/910GML Express Processor to DRAM Controller (rev 03) 00:01.0 PCI bridge: Intel Corporation Mobile 915GM/PM Express PCI Express Root Port (rev 03) 00:1c.0 PCI bridge: Intel Corporation 82801FB/FBM/FR/FW/FRW (ICH6 Family) PCI Express Port 1 (rev 03) 00:1c.1 PCI bridge: Intel Corporation 82801FB/FBM/FR/FW/FRW (ICH6 Family) PCI Express Port 2 (rev 03) 00:1d.0 USB Controller: Intel Corporation 82801FB/FBM/FR/FW/FRW (ICH6 Family) USB UHCI #1 (rev 03) 00:1d.1 USB Controller: Intel Corporation 82801FB/FBM/FR/FW/FRW (ICH6 Family) USB UHCI #2 (rev 03) 00:1d.2 USB Controller: Intel Corporation 82801FB/FBM/FR/FW/FRW (ICH6 Family) USB UHCI #3 (rev 03) 00:1d.7 USB Controller: Intel Corporation 82801FB/FBM/FR/FW/FRW (ICH6 Family) USB2 EHCI Controller (rev 03) 00:1e.0 PCI bridge: Intel Corporation 82801 Mobile PCI Bridge (rev d3) 00:1e.2 Multimedia audio controller: Intel Corporation 82801FB/FBM/FR/FW/FRW (ICH6 Family) AC'97 Audio Controller (rev 03) 00:1e.3 Modem: Intel Corporation 82801FB/FBM/FR/FW/FRW (ICH6 Family) AC'97 Modem Controller (rev 03) 00:1f.0 ISA bridge: Intel Corporation 82801FBM (ICH6M) LPC Interface Bridge (rev 03) 00:1f.1 IDE interface: Intel Corporation 82801FB/FBM/FR/FW/FRW (ICH6 Family) IDE Controller (rev 03) 01:00.0 VGA compatible controller: ATI Technologies Inc M24 1P [Radeon Mobility X600] 02:04.0 Network controller: Intel Corporation PRO/Wireless 2915ABG [Calexico2] Network Connection (rev 05) 02:06.0 CardBus bridge: Texas Instruments PCIxx21/x515 Cardbus Controller 02:06.2 FireWire (IEEE 1394): Texas Instruments OHCI Compliant IEEE 1394 Host Controller 02:06.3 Mass storage controller: Texas Instruments PCIxx21 Integrated FlashMedia Controller 02:06.4 SD Host controller: Texas Instruments PCI6411/6421/6611/6621/7411/7421/7611/7621 Secure Digital Controller 02:06.5 Communication controller: Texas Instruments PCI6411/6421/6611/6621/7411/7421/7611/7621 Smart Card Controller 10:00.0 Ethernet controller: Broadcom Corporation NetXtreme BCM5751M Gigabit Ethernet PCI Express (rev 11)

1) This isn't a duplicate of bug #257095? 2) Are you talking about suspend to RAM or disk or what? 3) It's better to post the dmesg output of the 2.6.28 kernel (before you try to suspend) - lspci output is hardly of use.
1) no, 2.6.27 works fine here with suspending and hibernation 2) The original report clearly says "pm-suspend", not "pm-hibernate" ... 3) I'll do that, if I'm back at the machine ...
Created attachment 183332 [details] dmesg output for kernel 2.6.28-r1
Can you reproduce this using the latest development kernel, currently v2.6.29-rc8?
Unfortunately the ati-drivers package won't compile with 2.6.29 yet, plus the most recent versions of it have their own bugs (as does the open-source radeon driver) with regard to suspend & resume, so it might be a while before I can definitively test 2.6.29.
can you reproduce this on 2.6.28 without using the closed-source ATI drivers?
(In reply to comment #8) > can you reproduce this on 2.6.28 without using the closed-source ATI drivers? > I've lost almost all interest in the closed-source driver for the moment because I'm using 2.6.29 with the open-source driver where pm-suspend works fine. Even having the closed-source driver installed causes a conflict with using the open-source driver! Perhaps a worthy bug in itself? Someone else will probably have to pick up the baton on this one.
Closing, as it seems the problem does not occur with the open source driver.
