Description Andrew Udvare 2009-02-02 19:45:05 UTC
I run the following every Wednesday:

emerge --sync && layman -S && update-eix && emerge -auvDN world && for i in `seq 1 3`; do revdep-rebuild; done

Some packages I have installed have the dependency media-libs/fmod. For some reason, revdep-rebuild thinks the binaries are not linked properly and continues to reinstall fmod.

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
emerge --sync
Install something that needs fmod.
revdep-rebuild
Actual Results:
revdep-rebuild continues to fmod

Expected Results:
fmod dependency is already solved and should not continually be reinstalled.

So glad I am not the only one.
Comment 5 Paul Varner (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2009-02-19 19:23:41 UTC
The following entry in /etc/make.conf will stop revdep-rebuild from trying to
rebuild the package:

SEARCH_DIRS_MASK="/usr/lib*/libfmodevent64*"

If you already have a SEARCH_DIRS_MASK entry, then just add it to the existing
entry.
Comment 6 Maciej Józiewicz 2009-03-01 21:10:44 UTC
But isn't there a problem in the package?

The problematic files are:
-rwxr-xr-x  1 root root   526896 lut 28 19:49 libfmodevent64-4.21.02.so
-rwxr-xr-x  1 root root   526896 lut 28 19:49 libfmodevent64-4.21.03.so
-rwxr-xr-x  1 root root   530192 lut 28 19:49 libfmodevent64-4.21.04.so
-rwxr-xr-x  1 root root   525240 lut 28 19:49 libfmodevent64-4.21.05.so
but there is also:
-rwxr-xr-x  1 root root   525240 lut 28 19:49 libfmodevent64-4.21.06.so
which probably is properly linked to:
-rwxr-xr-x  1 root root  1338600 lut 28 19:49 libfmodex64-4.21.06.so

So it seems like the 2 through 5 libfmodex64 files are missing in the package.
Comment 7 Samuli Suominen (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2009-05-12 22:15:56 UTC
It's my fault, I totally missed these dangling unwanted libraries..

+  12 May 2009; Samuli Suominen <ssuominen@gentoo.org> fmod-4.21.06.ebuild:
+ Remove unwanted libraries to stop revdep-rebuild from looping wrt #257419.

It fixes the problem for now, but there's another bug which requests this binary blob to be moved into /opt, which I'm about to do as well.

Thanks guys for patience.
