Description gglaboussole 2009-02-02 17:42:45 UTC
For 3 years ago I use succesfully the nvidia-drivers, but with the 180.22 and 27 X doesn't start and I have a "error recovery failed" in my log (see the attachement)
Downgrading to 177.82 solve the problem

My Cards : GeForce 6800 LE

My /etc/modules.d/nvidia :
options nvidia NVreg_DeviceFileMode=432 NVreg_DeviceFileUID=0 NVreg_DeviceFileGID=27 NVreg_ModifyDeviceFiles=1 NVreg_EnableAGPSBA=1

emerge --info

No personal knowledge of this issue, and 30 min of searching around came up with not much (but I'd say it's worth it for you because there is actually some stuff that might be of guidance).

I would recommend triple-checking all your BIOS values for AGP/PCI graphics selection... and if nothing just file a bug report with upstream using nvidia-bug-report.sh as the issue is not Gentoo-specific.

I'll leave the bug open for a bit to wait for cardoe's opinion on the matter and some updates on your side.

I 've always used the nvidia AGP built-in (Option "NvAGP" "1" in my xorg.conf), I've just tested with agpgart and via_agp in the kernel and I have the same result...
nothing found, just this post http://www.nvnews.net/vbulletin/showthread.php?s=71b69f1adbb1f84ece83ca9c6e5b6f7f&t=123912&highlight=Error+recovery+failed
I think the best to me is to send a bug report to linux-bugs@nvidia.com with nvidia-bug-report.sh
