Description 404 Error 2009-02-01 13:14:37 UTC
on a system with gcc 4.3.3, ermerging xen and xen-tools 3.3.0 make their build to fail. gcc 4.3.2 does not have this trouble.

xen-tools :

cc1: warnings being treated as errors
xc_dom_x86.c: In function 'start_info_x86_32':
xc_dom_x86.c:421: error: format not a string literal and no format arguments
xc_dom_x86.c:421: error: format not a string literal and no format arguments
xc_dom_x86.c: In function 'start_info_x86_64':
xc_dom_x86.c:460: error: format not a string literal and no format arguments
xc_dom_x86.c:460: error: format not a string literal and no format argument

at this line we have :
snprintf(start_info->magic, sizeof(start_info->magic), dom->guest_type);

xen :

cc1: warnings being treated as errors
symbols.c: In function 'read_symbol':
symbols.c:84: error: ignoring return value of 'fgets', declared with attribute warn_unused_result

static int read_symbol(FILE *in, struct sym_entry *s)
{
        char str[500];
        char *sym, stype;
        int rc;

        rc = fscanf(in, "%llx %c %499s\n", &s->addr, &stype, str);
        if (rc != 3) {
                if (rc != EOF) {
                        /* skip line */
                        fgets(str, 500, in); /* <-- Line 84 !*/
                }
                return -1;
        }

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Add Xen to layman overlays
2. Update gcc to version 4.3.3
3. Try to emerge xen and xen-tools
4. Kaboom!

Actual Results:
Compilation fails

Expected Results:
compilation must succeed

Should I report for those 2 packages too ?

gcc is not doing anything wrong here; the extra warnings are deliberate and useful, and they wouldn't cause any problems for you if packages did not force -Werror into the build (they shouldn't). Since you've already opened bugs for xen and xen-tools, I'll close this one instead of changing the summary. Thanks for the reports.

Ok, took note. Thanks for the precision :-)
