Description Moritz Bellach 2009-01-31 01:56:06 UTC
I used thinkfinger successfully for a while now. But since I updated xorg-server from 1.4.1 (I think...) to 1.5.3 (or 1.5.3-r1) it stopped working.
I can use it on the VTs to login, no problem there.
I can test it with tf-tool --verfiy-user, works like a charm.
But when I do an "su" in gnome-terminal I get the usual "Password or swipe finger:" without being able to use the fingerprinter to auth.
All I get in the log is this:
Jan 31 02:32:18 tracy input: Virtual ThinkFinger Keyboard as /class/input/input13
Jan 31 02:32:18 tracy NetworkManager: <debug> [1233365538.450281] nm_hal_device_added(): New device added (hal udi is '/org/freedesktop/Hal/devices/computer_logicaldev_input_5').

No errors, it just doesn't do anything.
lsusb output:
Bus 005 Device 003: ID 0483:2016 SGS Thomson Microelectronics Fingerprint Reader

If you need more information, just ask.
greets, moritz

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1.install thinkfinger-0.3
2.install xorg-server-1.5.3(-r1)
3.try authenticating in a terminal

You probably updated a lot more than xorg-server alone. Could you please post your `emerge --info' too?
Comment 2 Moritz Bellach 2009-01-31 14:18:58 UTC
Well, I have got a bunch of software installed that is masked (i.e. xorg-x11-7.4 and deps). But since the problem only appears in X and not on the VTs or with tf-tool, I figured xorg-server is probably the problem.

I no longer have the hardware for sys-auth/thinkfinger. Any developer, please feel free to adopt this package and change metadata.xml
Thank you.
Comment 4 Moritz Bellach 2009-02-12 03:24:59 UTC
If you press return after swiping the finger it works - strange, because this was not needed before, but after all this is not really a bug anymore.
