Description Marco Gusy 2009-01-28 14:56:55 UTC
Maybe there is some misuderstanding, maybe gentoo developers didn't talk enough about the future of kde project... anyway seemed kde project would stop supporting big meta packages, the kde howto teach to switch to single app packages BUT 4.2 still has meta.

Update the page, or delete meta packages :)

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1. go to http://www.gentoo.org/proj/en/desktop/kde/kde4-guide.xml
2. search for "There will be no meta ebuilds for KDE 4.2"
3. go to http://packages.gentoo.org/package/kde-base/kdebase-meta

Well
Comment 2 Tomáš Chvátal (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2009-01-28 22:23:09 UTC
It hurts your feelings?
The guide is being updated currently :P
We had plans to include sets support before 4.2.0 obviously it didnt end up well :(
Comment 3 Marco Gusy 2009-01-28 23:04:03 UTC
no i'm still alive :D

I was simply surprised to see meta packages. Take this bug just like a reminder to update that row in the guide ;)

We'll fix this when we update the Guide as Tomáš said.
Comment 5 Marco Gusy 2009-01-29 18:03:16 UTC
good! by the way, what's the reason for dropping meta ebuilds?
Comment 6 Jorge Manuel B. S. Vicetto (RETIRED) Gentoo Infrastructure gentoo-dev 2009-01-30 05:55:27 UTC
This has been fixed now.
The motivation to drop metas was that we thought sets were better than metas. Due to some limitations in sets and to the proposed PROPERTIES=meta solution, that isn't as clear anymore.
